Podcast Updates
On Tuesday, our good friend, Dirk Stanley came back on the show. He came to talk about his latest project, Adventure Perilous! A lite and flexible tabletop roleplaying game with old-school rules and retro 8-bit aesthetics. He is launching a Kickstarter for it on August 1st.
Dirk’s expansive creativity and talent in game design is an inspiration and I learn so much each time he comes on the show.
On Thursday, the internationally renowned game designer and author of Tianxia: Blood, Silk & Jade, Jack Norris was our Episode 190 guest.
He was here to talk about his bestselling FATE Core system game, Tianxia: Blood, Silk & Jade which was released by Vigilance Press.
Project Updates
More work on the ‘Appliance’ Tabletop role-playing game this week. As I worked on building more of the skill system, I kept going to the notes section of the draft and add more world-building aspects to the game as ideas popped into my head as I wrote.
I am sure the final draft of the game will look different, but the most important part of the creative process is to start in the first place.
What I’m reading
In preparation for my Dirk Stanley interview, I was able to read ‘Adventure Perilous: Role-Playing Game’. I have been a fan of Dirk Stanley’s work since I discovered his ‘Far Away Land’ game.
This game is from the ‘Mere Anarchy’ system he created several months ago. Adventure Perilous embraces the 8-bit aesthetic and provides more detail from his ‘Mere Anarchy’ system.
What I love about this system is that the rules provide enough narrative freedom for the player, while still keeping it within a defined system that would appeal both to seasoned players that like a little ‘crunch’ in their game; whilst making it easy for first-time players to tabletop to enjoy.
Personal Updates
Happy to have my downstairs office mostly cleaned up. Most of the Legos have been moved to the other room, allowing me to not be too distracted.
Although, I did install a television with my Nintendo Classic… so replacing one form of nostalgia with another. I did realize too how incredibly difficult 8 Bit Nintendo games are.
