What stands out in this early work is the essence of Tintin's character—his courage, wit, and unwavering sense of justice. Though presented in a more rudimentary form, these elements are the building blocks of the complex narratives and richly drawn worlds that would later define the Tintin series. The comic's engagement with the political landscape of its time adds a layer of depth, making it an entertaining read and a commentary on the era's geopolitical tensions.

"Binky, the Space Cat" is a captivating graphic novel with a concise yet touching narrative. From the perspective of Binky, an endearing feline protagonist, we embark on a thrilling adventure to protect his beloved family from pesky alien invaders. Through Binky's determination and courage, young readers are introduced to themes of bravery, loyalty, and the power of imagination.

One of my favorite things about this is the repartee between characters. It is reminiscent of the 90s in the sense that the original Image Comics superhero teams were built from a similar story premise and the 90s movies were also a great era of witty banter.

This past week I finally finished reading ‘Covid Chronicles’ comic anthology from Graphic Mundi. This is a whopping 270+ page book with 65 individual stories. This book serves both as a therapy for all of us who lived (and are living) through COVID and serves as a time capsule. Although the book was published less than 2 years ago, it is also good to see how far we have come with the science and understanding of COVID.

I backed Stephanie Nina Pitsirilos’ Kickstarter a couple of months ago, ‘Zine100: How Not to Be Colonized By Outreach Programs’. It was a fun and educational mini-zine that was handmade by Stephanie. Her passion and experience in community-based health advocacy are apparent and appreciated in the booklet. She tackles a challenging subject that is also not widely known with an approachable and accessible narrative and art style.

I really appreciated Khouri’s artwork, with its heavy linework. This book also shows how important color is to a story, for mood and setting. The entire book was presented in a warm palette of yellows and oranges, which insinuated to me, a planet with a different type of sun.

It is clear to me that Blamire has a love of the golden age of comics. The satirical comic book cover images are both hilarious and nostalgic with a touch of genius.

This is one of those books that I can read repeatedly and be continuously entertained and inspired with new ideas.

This past week I was also fortunate enough to get my hands of Lords of the Cosmos issues one , two, and three. I am reading them so I can send in a letter for the letters section of issue 4. I really enjoyed how Jason Lenox designed the universe and the wide and diverse cast of characters has made it really enjoyable as well
