In this episode, we welcomed back Mike Luoma, a multi-talented science fiction and comic book author. Mike is also a podcaster and curator at WBKM.org. He joined us to discuss his latest book, "Ancient Stone Mysteries of New England," which delves into the potentially ancient Indigenous stonework scattered throughout the region. With over 500 black & white photographs, the book is a visual feast that complements Mike's eye-opening insights. If you're curious about the hidden history of New England, this episode is a must-listen.

We were thrilled to feature Corissa Grant, the internationally recognized writer, and creator of Worthy Chaos Comics. In this episode, Corissa shares how roleplaying can enhance narrative skills and offers a unique lens into her creative process. She also discusses her latest Kickstarter project, Worthy Chaos Redemption, a horror adventure comic blends Buffy, Resident Evil, and Supernatural elements. Despite being dyslexic, Corissa has turned her passion for writing into an incredible journey, making this episode genuinely inspiring.

I'm thrilled to share some exciting news: the physical proof of 'Dadder Jokes' has been ordered! This is a significant milestone in bringing this book to life, and I couldn't be more excited.

The physical proof is set to arrive on October 9th. This will be the moment of truth, where we see how all the hard work, creativity, and laughter translate into a tangible book.

If everything looks good and no changes are needed, we'll be all set to place a bulk order. That means we're one step closer to getting this hilarious collection into your hands!

I want to take this opportunity to thank every one of you for your incredible support. It's been a joyous journey filled with laughs, and I can't wait to share the final product with you.

Stay tuned for more updates, and here's to hoping that the physical proof is everything we've been working towards!

"Freestyle" by Gale Galligan: A Dance of Friendship, Family, and Finding Balance

"Freestyle" by Gale Galligan is a heartwarming graphic novel that masterfully captures the emotional rollercoaster of middle school. Centered around Cory, a young dancer facing the pressures of an upcoming competition, family expectations, and academic responsibilities, the book offers a nuanced look at the complexities of adolescence. Galligan's storytelling shines, particularly in the character development department. Cory starts as a relatable middle-schooler but evolves into a more rounded individual as he navigates the challenges of friendships, academics, and personal growth.

What sets this book apart is its focus on inclusivity. As a fan of the diverse ensemble in shows like Star Trek, I found the book's portrayal of a multicultural group of friends refreshing and timely. It's a subtle yet powerful nod to the importance of representation and inclusivity, making the story resonate with a broad audience.

Another standout feature is the novel's unique focus on yo-yos, elevating them from mere child's play to a form of art and sport. This is a compelling metaphor for life's balancing acts, which Cory grapples with throughout the story. His friendship with his tutor, Sunna, adds depth to this theme. Initially perceived as a "boring nerd," Sunna surprises Cory with her yo-yo prowess, leading to a friendship that enriches both characters and adds layers to the narrative.

The book also addresses real-world issues like parental pressures, academic responsibilities, and the dynamics of friendships. These themes are skillfully woven into the story, making it relatable to readers of all ages. Galligan's vibrant illustrations add to the book's appeal, making it a visual treat.

"Freestyle" is a beautifully crafted graphic novel that speaks to the challenges and joys of growing up. It's a story of friendship, family, and the quest for balance in a complex world. With its well-developed characters, focus on inclusivity and unique twists, it's a must-read that leaves a lasting impression.

A New Chapter—Taking Ownership of WYKR Radio!

I'm beyond excited to share some monumental news with you all. After nearly seven months of navigating paperwork, consulting with lawyers, dealing with the FCC, and securing bank loans, I've finally done it—I bought WYKR Radio!

The timing couldn't be more poetic. The purchase was finalized on October 3rd, the anniversary of when WYKR first went on the air in 1976. Talk about serendipity!

While the purchase is a significant milestone, the journey is far from over. I've spent the latter half of this week signing even more papers and securing music licenses to ensure the station operates smoothly.

As I step into this new role, I'm also wrapping up my time with Leafguard. I have just two more days with them, and I'm committed to ending on a high note. Why? Because I'm hoping to bring them on board as an advertiser for WYKR!

This is a thrilling new chapter in my life, and I can't wait to see where this journey takes me—and all of us. Thank you for being a part of this adventure. Stay tuned for more updates as I dive into radio broadcasting!
