Podcast Updates

On Tuesday, I had the second interview in a series of chatting with game designers for role-playing games that use the Fate Core system mechanics. I was excited to have with us the internationally acclaimed and award-winning game designer and podcaster, Ross Payton. Although there were many topics that I could chat with Ross about, this time, He was here to talk about his bestselling FATE Core system game, Base Raiders!

Project Updates

More progress was made for the ‘Appliance’ game this past week. I worked more on writing general skills explanations that are standard to the FATE system. This has been good practice in rewording and rewriting these general skill explanations for when I start writing up skills that are specific to the game.

Also, this week I did more script writing for some YouTube videos for my Nerd Stock Talk channel. These will be shared specifically with my Patreon members in advance.

What I’m reading

This past week, I read Johnathan Wright’s Fate-Powered game sourcebook, ‘Mecha vs Kaiju’

I read this to learn more about how other creators build their own games; so, I read this for the system and not the content.

I have never been an avid fan of the Kaiju genre; I would consider myself agnostic over its themes. I am not one turn away from a King Kong or Godzilla movie if it pops up on streaming, but I also am not running to the movie theater when a Kaiju-esque movie is playing. Also, I have yet to watch any Pacific Rim films.

What I did like about Wright’s game is how he created archetype stunt families that have stunt groups that chain off of each other. This gives players another opportunity for character progression.

The Mecha system is also very interesting; allowing the Game Master to have a collection of Aspects, Extras, and Stress track for them.

Personal Updates

This past week was some stressful times at work involving a couple of homeless elderly clients of the agency I work for in my day job. But the main takeaway from this, personally, is we have fantastic people working here.

We had some fun at Rail City Fan Fest this past week.
