Podcast Updates

I always enjoy chatting with Vermont authors and Children’s Book authors.  I was delighted to have an opportunity to talk with both this week.

This past Tuesday, I was delighted to have on the show the award-winning NCAA Division 1 hockey coach turned Vermont Author, Gary Wright. He was here to talk about his book: Striding Rough Ice: Coaching College Hockey and Growing Up in the Game.  I really learned a lot from Gary on how perseverance and passion can get a good book made.

On Thursday, the highly talented and creative mastermind behind ‘The Gentle Bulldozer’ , Amy Baron came on the show.  It was a delight to talk to her about her inaugural children’s book.  She provided some great tips and advice for would-be authors.  I highly recommend anyone interested in writing children’s books to take listen to the interview.

Project Updates

This past week I was able to plug away more on my ‘Appliance’ game and finally broke through the 30,000-word count.  I am also sitting at 116 pages of my first draft so far as well.  I was concentrating on describing different types of aspects of the game.  I am pleased with how this is turning out so far.

I do find it personally fascinating that as I translate the FATE Core system into the world of ‘Appliance’ how it also fleshes out the game world.  I am very excited about test-running this game in the near future.

What I’m reading

I sat down with my middle child, the witty and passionate Jordan, and read ‘The Gentle Bulldozer’ by Amy Baron.  This is a great children’s book and has a great message for kids, and that is all about following your dreams, and being kind can make you feel good.  Amy Baron also found an amazing illustrator for ‘The Gentle Bulldozer’ with Rogerio Coelho.  His friendly and accessible style is a perfect companion to Baron’s story.

This book needs to be on every library and bookstore shelf.

Personal Updates

Looking at the snow out of my new basement window!

This was the first week of snow for us this year. Although I knew that snow would come, it did come a bit earlier than we normally would get over the last few years.

I still have not been able to get the lawn furniture stored away, and the garage is not yet fully cleaned out so that the wife can store the minivan in there; but at least the basement windows have been replaced, making it a bit warmer downstairs.

I have also been trying to clean up my downstairs office by posting more lego sets and books on my eBay page.  Also, it looks like the price of Beanie Babies completely tanked…

Wondering how low I need to sell them for before they are bought up.
