Storycomic Weekly Newsletter: November 19th
Podcast Updates
This past week I was able to record episode 223 of ‘Storycomic Presents’. I was excited to have with us the Ringo Nominated and award-winning comic creator of Halloween Man, Drew Edwards!
We had a great time talking about building an ongoing series and how some of his characters are inspired by people in his life. We also discussed how characters evolve as the writer gains more life experience.
Project Updates
Work and personal life stuff took over the bulk of my week, so I was unable to do any substantive work on projects, but I am looking forward to plugging away more on ‘Appliance’
What I’m reading
I finished reading the massive 280+ page graphic novel, ‘Amelia Erroway: Castaway Commander’ which is written by and illustrated by the amazing B.C. Peterschmidt.
This was an engaging and visually stunning coming-of-age story about a girl who accidentally crashes her father’s airship in a faraway jungle paradise. She meets new friends and builds her confidence and grows from seeing the flaws of those she looks up to and learns that no one is perfect.
I appreciated the ending and was initially surprised by it, but essentially saw that a satisfying ending does not necessarily mean that it will be a happy ending for everyone.
Personal Updates
This week was a week of not sitting still. I was able to spend some time with my peers from other human service agencies for the first time in almost 3 years. It was a joy to feel re-energized after a long and arduous couple of years.
I also dropped off my mother-in-law as she left for 2 months to return to Nigeria. This will be a delightfully complicated next couple of months as the wife and I balance our work with taking care of the children. Luckily, my mother will be on standby to help with the toddler for a couple of days.
