Podcast Updates
This past week I was able to do 2 podcast interviews. In Episode 53 I chatted with the award-winning and internationally celebrated author, Amy Laurens. I had a really good time. She had a great number of tips and advice for seasoned and new writers.
On Thursday I chatted with Dave Buesing of Comic Book Herald. We chatted about making accessible and comprehensive readers guides to comic books for folks who are new to comics as well as folks who are getting back into comics! Dave also gave his theories on Wandavision!
Project Updates
Working on some more WIPs (works in progress) this week. The first one is that I am revisiting the book of proverbs that I collected from the cultures of Niger. I am thinking about making it a companion piece to my ‘2 Years’ series.
Also, I am going to try out doing a new podcast called ‘Nerd Stock Talk’ with a couple of friends. We’ll be chatting on how to make investing accessible to fellow geeks and nerds like myself.
What I’m reading
This past week I read Nathan Hale’s educational graphic novel, ‘Big Bad Ironclad’ which is part of his ‘Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales’ series.
The format of the book is really good. I loved how Hale utilized the page formats and frames to help tell the story. Almost each page was a master class in graphic design. The cartooning style is also made accessible to younger readers while the subject of the story makes it approachable to educators.
For students of all ages, history can be boring, but he was also able to make the story both entertaining and informative. I’m now really excited to read more of his books.
Personal Updates
This past week has been delightfully uneventful for work. We are now in a cold part of the winter and I have kept a fire going in the basement where my temporary home office has been set up. Also, as of this posting, 39 extra minutes of daylight!
