Project Update: Wrapping Up Daddest Jokes
Good news on the Daddest Jokes front! The draft is nearing completion and should be ready in less than two weeks. The motivation? My Adobe subscription, which has been an essential tool for editing and designing the book, is set to expire soon—and I’ve decided not to renew it.
This deadline has given me the push I needed to buckle down and focus on finishing the draft. It’s a bittersweet moment as Adobe has been a big help, but it’s also exciting to have this external motivation to cross the finish line.
Stay tuned—progress is happening quickly now, and I’m looking forward to sharing more updates soon!
Review: Set to Sea by Drew Weing
I recently had the pleasure of reading Set to Sea by Drew Weing, and it was an absolute gem of a find! I picked it up at a library sale, not knowing much about it, and was thrilled to discover such a unique and compelling graphic novel.
The story is told through quick, powerful images that pack an incredible emotional punch. Weing’s artwork is simply stunning, with intricate crosshatching and a sense of depth that draws you into every panel. The protagonist’s transformation from a dreamy poet to a hardened sailor is conveyed masterfully, using minimal dialogue but maximum visual storytelling.
I especially loved how the art carries the weight of the narrative, telling the story in a way that words alone never could. The book is short but leaves a lasting impression, with themes of resilience, creativity, and finding purpose woven throughout.
If you ever come across Set to Sea, I highly recommend picking it up—it’s a small treasure with a big heart.
Personal Update: A Cold, Busy Week
This past week was a tough one weather-wise. The snow was relentless, and the freezing temperatures made it downright miserable to be outside. The humidifiers at home have been running overtime, but at least they're keeping the inside air comfortable amidst the chill.
Work has been a whirlwind. I’ve been immersed in more board meetings and continuing to refine my updated strategic plan for the station. Friday was particularly intense—I clocked my first 16-hour workday of the year. Starting with our morning show at 6 a.m. and wrapping up after a basketball game at 9 p.m. made for a long haul. It’s exhausting, but there’s something about that pace and energy that I genuinely enjoy.
On the home front, I’ve been making a conscious effort to spend more quality time with the kids. With so much time devoted to work, those family moments feel even more precious. Whether it’s playing, talking, or just being present, it’s a priority to make sure I’m there for them as much as I can.
Despite the challenges of the week, there’s a lot to be grateful for—family, work momentum, and the ability to push through the long days. Here’s hoping for slightly better weather ahead!
