Book Review: "Galaxy: The Prettiest Star" - A Cosmic Journey of Self-Discovery

"Galaxy: The Prettiest Star" by Jadzia Axelrod, with illustrations by Jess Taylor, is a graphic novel that beautifully tackles the complexities of identity through the lens of an alien princess hiding on Earth. Taylor Barzelay, the protagonist, embodies the struggle between duty and the yearning to be one's true self. Jess Taylor's illustrations are a highlight, merging manga influences with a vibrant color scheme that perfectly captures the emotional essence of the story.

This narrative is a powerful metaphor for the transgender experience, yet its message of authenticity resonates universally. The characters are relatable and multifaceted, from the supportive corgi Argus to Taylor's understanding sister Sally, adding richness to the tale. Even characters who embody resistance to change, like Carl and Phil, are depicted with depth and room for growth.

In essence, "Galaxy: The Prettiest Star" is an inspiring journey of self-discovery and acceptance, a vivid reminder of the courage it takes to live as one's true self. It's a significant read for anyone who has ever felt the need to hide a part of themselves, offering hope and a celebration of the beauty found in being genuine. Jess Taylor's artistry is not just complementary but integral, elevating the story into a visual and emotional masterpiece.

A Spooky Success and Radio Revelations

As the leaves turned their autumn hues and the chill of October whispered through the air, Halloween graced us with its presence once again. Despite the cooler temperatures compared to last year, the spirit of the holiday remained undampened. The little ones, wrapped in their costumes, braved the cold and returned victorious with their bounty of sweets—a testament to the enduring magic of trick-or-treating.

On a personal note, this week marked a significant milestone in my journey as a radio station owner. I'm proud to say that I've successfully closed out my first month at the helm. It's been a period of learning and adaptation, but I believe we've finally perfected the streaming options, setting a solid foundation for the future.

In tandem with managing the current station, I've embarked on a nostalgic project—transposing old cassette recordings into digital format. This labor of love is the first step toward launching a sister internet radio station, one that will serve as a time capsule of sorts, playing classic recordings from the station's rich history. It's a way to honor the past while innovating for the future, and I'm excited about the potential it holds.

As I reflect on the past month, I'm filled with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation. The journey of running a radio station has been both challenging and rewarding, and I'm eager to see where this path will lead. Here's to the next chapter and the new tunes it will bring to the airwaves. Stay tuned!

the ones I haven’t gone through yet.

Happy Halloween!
