I had a couple of cool shows this past week. On Tuesday we had with us the internationally acclaimed and talented comic creator, Chris Sahloff. He was here to talk about his latest Kickstarter: CRIT: Intestinal Fortitude - A D&D Superhero Adventure Story

Then on Thursday, I was excited to have with us the internationally acclaimed, and award-winning performance artist, puppeteer, and Pop Culture Icon, Paul Zaloom! I was a huge fan of Beakman’s World in the day, and it was so fun chatting with him about his work.

Project Updates

Over the last few weeks, my other Vermont cartoonist friends brought back our weekly critique and hang-out group. We used to do them online before the pandemic, but they fizzled out. It has been fun talking with fellow creatives and I have been able to get some great feedback on my dad joke book.

Greg Giordano provided me with a sketch idea for the cover and Mark Gonyea provided me with some layout ideas.

I’m hopeful that the book is almost ready to get published.

What I’m reading

While Edith and I were staying at a Vrbo a couple of weeks ago, I found and read a really fun book, “Captain Raptor and the Space Pirates.” It was written by Kevin O’Malley and illustrated by Patrick O’Brien.

It was a 32-page picture book, but it appeared to be the perfect marriage between a comic book and a children's book.

The description of the book is as follows:

Planet Jurassica is under siege. The sinister space pirates have raided the Imperial palace and stolen the famous Jewels of Jurassica. This looks like a job for . . . Captain Raptor!. . . hero of a thousand space missions; champion of truth, justice, and dinosaurs in space throughout the galaxy. If anyone can track down those marauding space pirates, it's Captain Raptor and the fearless crew of the Megatooth!

The illustrations were intricately designed painting images of science fiction dinosaurs. The writing is not particularly innovative, philosophical, or has a strong moral message but it is just a really fun book for kids.

Personal Updates

This past week I started actively chipping away at my latest acquired Lego collection. I have been able to rebuild 4 sets from it so far.

Very excited to see daylight getting longer and longer. As of this writing, we have 2 hours and 32 extra minutes of daylight compared to our darkest day of the year, December 21st. We had a bit of a cold streak this week but hope springs eternal.

As COVID numbers continue to decrease, it was the first week back to school where there is a ‘Mask Optional’ environment in place. Logically, I am okay with this since our case numbers in the county is very low, but we are still having our kiddos wear masks since we still have a youngster not eligible for his shot. Deep breaths. We are almost out of this!
