ALWAYS POSTED A WEEK EARLIER ON PATREON

Podcast Update: Rescheduling and Exciting Conversations

This past week, I had to hit pause on a few podcast interviews since I was under the weather. Thankfully, my guests were understanding, and we’ve rescheduled for a later date. The upside? I used this extra time to get ahead on planning and now have interviews scheduled all the way into early June!

On the flip side, I had the chance to be a guest on Kurt Sasso's podcast, where he hosted a roundtable discussion with seven of us. It was an absolute blast! We had some great conversations, and I got to meet some awesome new folks. It’s always fun to connect with other creators and dive into different perspectives.

Looking forward to getting back into recording soon—lots of great interviews coming your way!

Project Update: Weighing the Next Steps

As I wait to finalize an exciting (but still undisclosed) business purchase, progress on Daddest Jokes has been a bit stalled. The reality is, I just might have to bite the bullet and subscribe to Adobe for one more month so I can finally wrap up the draft. It’s not ideal, but getting this book finished is a priority, and having the right tools will make that happen.

With everything else going on, including expansion plans for the radio station, I’m juggling a lot, but slow progress is still progress! Hopefully, I’ll have more updates soon.

Tintin Review: The Calculus Affair

Reading The Calculus Affair was another great nostalgic trip into the world of Tintin, and this one was a thrilling change of pace! Growing up, I devoured the Tintin books from my school library, but there were always a few I never got my hands on—so finally reading this one was a real treat.

This adventure leans heavily into the espionage genre, feeling more like a Cold War thriller than some of the globe-trotting treasure hunts of earlier books. The story kicks off with a mystery—broken glass, strange disappearances, and secret agents lurking in the shadows. When Professor Calculus is kidnapped due to his latest scientific discovery, Tintin, Captain Haddock, and Snowy race against time to save him, caught between rival nations who want to get their hands on the professor’s invention.

One thing I really appreciated about this book was how well Hergé handled suspense. There’s a sense of urgency throughout, with chase scenes, clever disguises, and unexpected twists. Captain Haddock is in top form here—his grumpy, whiskey-fueled reactions are always hilarious, especially when dealing with all the chaos around him. And of course, the Thompsons provide their usual slapstick moments.

Hergé’s signature attention to detail shines, particularly in the European settings and vehicles. His clean, expressive artwork makes every scene engaging, and the storytelling is as sharp as ever.

While I love the globe-trotting treasure hunts in other Tintin books, The Calculus Affair stands out as one of the best in terms of pure intrigue. It’s a must-read for any Tintin fan, and I’m so glad I finally got to experience it firsthand!

Surviving the Sick House and Keeping the Station Running

This past week felt like a never-ending cycle of sniffles, coughs, and tissues. I was hit hard for about 24 hours, but thankfully, I bounced back quickly. Unfortunately, the rest of the house wasn’t as lucky—between the kids and Edith, sickness made its way through the family, making for a bit of a rough and complicated week.

Despite all that, the radio station kept rolling. We broadcasted two basketball games and aired another Outdoor Edge show, so at least work didn’t slow down too much. It’s always a challenge juggling everything when the household isn’t at full strength, but we managed to keep things moving.

And of course, winter is still in full force. Snow just keeps piling up, and while I know spring is coming eventually, it sure doesn’t feel like it’s in any hurry. Here’s hoping for some warmer days ahead—both in terms of weather and a sickness-free household!

Our dishwasher broke last week and we got the new one installed this week1
