Project Update: Slow but Steady Progress on 'Daddest Jokes' and 'Appliance'

Just a quick update—things have been moving slowly but surely on both the 'Daddest Jokes' and 'Appliance' projects. I’m continuing to work on fine-tuning the jokes for 'Daddest Jokes,' and although progress has been a bit slow, we’re still moving forward. The same goes for 'Appliance,' where I’ve been gradually adding more content and refining the gameplay mechanics.

Book Review: It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown by Charles M. Schulz

It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown is a delightful and nostalgic read, capturing the essence of Charles M. Schulz’s beloved Peanuts characters. As someone who has worked on designing books, it’s always fun to see how older children's books like this one were put together. This particular story feels like it could have been crafted as another classic network television special, blending Schulz's signature humor with his unique approach to children's storytelling.

The story kicks off with the Peanuts gang reflecting on their summer vacation, which felt all too short—something most of us can relate to! Linus, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the crew recount their less-than-ideal summer camp experience, with plenty of laughs along the way. From failed canoe races to arm wrestling showdowns, the boys constantly find themselves bested by the girls, until Snoopy, in true “Masked Marvel” fashion, saves the day with his sneaky tactics.

What really stands out in this book is how Charles M. Schulz translates his comic strip genius into a longer format. The pacing of the story flows seamlessly, and the illustrations stay true to Schulz’s iconic style. The humor is sharp and clever, and it’s interesting to see how this story plays out in a picture book format compared to his usual comic strips. The book also touches on themes of competition, friendship, and the bittersweet feeling of summer ending, all delivered in a way that’s both heartwarming and funny.

For fans of Peanuts, It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown is a charming addition to the collection. It’s a quick and enjoyable read that brings back memories of the simple joys of childhood, and for anyone who enjoys seeing how books were crafted in the past, this one is a great example of classic children’s book design.

Personal Update: Embracing Change and Family Time

This past week has been a bit of a whirlwind, especially on the work front. I'm currently in the process of hiring a new salesperson for the radio station as my sales manager is moving on. It's definitely given me a deeper understanding of the ins and outs of the sales team, and I'm feeling more confident in handling things moving forward. I had the chance to interview about 8 candidates, and each one brought something unique to the table, which made the process interesting and encouraging.

On the personal side, I made sure to spend some quality time with the kiddos. Elizabeth is loving soccer, so I brought her to practice and got to cheer her on. Iggy had some fun with Grammy and Grampa this week, which is always special for him. Jordan even tagged along with me to the radio station one day, which was a great way to spend time together while also giving him a peek into my work world. It’s moments like these that remind me how quickly they grow up, and I’m trying to soak up all the time I can with them.
