'Appliance' Update
In addition to 'Daddest Jokes,' I’ve been diving back into my 'Appliance' role-playing game. It’s been a while since I last worked on it, but getting back into the game has been a rewarding and creative experience. I’m exploring new ideas and mechanics to enhance the gameplay and make it even more enjoyable. There’s a lot of exciting potential with 'Appliance,' and I’m eager to share more updates as the project develops.
Book Review: "Tales from the Con" by Brad Guigar
If you've ever set foot in a comic convention, "Tales from the Con" by Brad Guigar is a must-read that perfectly captures the hilarity and chaos of con life. Having had the pleasure of hosting Brad on my show and being an avid listener of his podcast "Comic Lab," I was excited to dive into this collection, which did not disappoint.
"Tales from the Con" is a fun take on the world of comic books and conventions. Fanboys, fangirls, cosplayers, retailers, volunteers, and pros collide on the convention floor (and beyond) to prove that comic conventions are one-part festivals and two-part group therapy. The book wraps up a mega-successful run of over four years online, where it entertained hundreds of thousands of fans. Now, it collects every single strip ever published online, along with some unpublished strips as well.
Written by Eisner-nominee Brad Guigar and illustrated by Chris Giarrusso and Scoot McMahon, the book is a delightful romp through the various antics that make comic conventions so unique. The vibrant and detailed artwork complements the sharp and witty writing. Whether it's the overzealous fan wanting multiple copies signed or the cosplayer caught in a compromising moment while trying to eat, each strip hits home with humor and a touch of reality.
What stands out in "Tales from the Con" is its ability to poke fun at the conventions while celebrating them simultaneously. The comic puns, pop culture references, and general goofiness are mined for good laughs. Yes, some jokes border on the kind of puns you'd scold your dad for, but many more are genuinely entertaining and clever.
This book offers a hilarious glimpse into the culture for those who have never been to a comic convention. For seasoned con-goers, it serves as a nostalgic reminder of all the quirks and craziness that make conventions so special. Guigar's insight into con life is spot on, and his love for the community shines through every page.
Personal Update: Unexpected Car Repairs and Exciting New Show Plans
I had to deal with an emergency tire replacement for my car this week. It turned out that my tires were severely bald, and one even had a bubble. It was an unexpected expense, but safety comes first, and I’m glad it was taken care of.
New Radio Show Plans
On a more exciting note, we’ve finalized some fantastic ideas for a new show I’ll launch on the radio station. I can’t share too many details just yet, as we’re still in the process of finding sponsors for it, but I’m thrilled about the concept and can’t wait to bring it to life.
