The Land We Love: Glenn Reed Talks 'Searching for the Wild Asparagus

In the latest episode of Storycomic Presents, host Barney Smith welcomes Glenn Reed to discuss his poignant new book, ‘Searching for the Wild Asparagus.’ This compilation of essays and photographs is more than just a memoir; it’s a respectful acknowledgment of the deep ties that connect us to specific places—ties that shape our identity and perceptions.

Glenn Reed’s narrative is rooted in the 23 acres of land in Vermont that remained a constant through nearly five decades of his life. The book captures the essence of his attachment to this land through vivid descriptions and personal anecdotes that are both universal and uniquely personal. From the tranquility of peepers singing in a swamp to the joy of witnessing a dog’s carefree run across a hayfield, Reed’s stories resonate with anyone who has ever felt a profound connection to a place.

The discussion with Glenn explores how these moments and memories are more than just passing experiences; they are the threads that weave the tapestry of our lives. His book invites readers to reflect on their own unique places and the roles these landscapes play in defining who they are.

‘Searching for the Wild Asparagus’ is an evocative exploration of the intersections of place, memory, and identity, offering readers a chance to contemplate the landscapes that have influenced their own lives.

Update on 'Daddest Jokes'

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give you a quick update on the progress of 'Daddest Jokes Volume 3'. I'm still plugging away at it, and while things have been a bit slow, I'm making steady progress.

I’ve been busy gathering and curating some fantastic jokes to ensure this volume is packed with the best dad humor. Each joke is carefully selected to bring a smile or a groan (in the best way possible).

On the creative side, I’m still working on the illustrations and the cover design. The cover is coming together nicely, and I’m excited about how it’s shaping up. I’ve also completed 10 illustrations so far, and I aim to reach the goal of 25.

Thank you all for your patience and support. It’s your enthusiasm that keeps this project going strong. Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready for a lot of laughs when 'Daddest Jokes Volume 3' is finally ready!

Book Review: "Party Like It's 2044" by Joni B. Cole

"Party Like It's 2044" by Joni B. Cole is an absolute delight, combining humor and insight in a way that only Cole can. Having previously hosted Joni on my podcast, I knew I was in for a treat, but this collection of essays exceeded my expectations.

Joni’s wit shines through from the first page as she tackles everything from feuding with a dead medium to overthinking insulting birthday cards. Her writing is irreverent and thought-provoking, offering a joy ride through eclectic essays that perfectly balance soul-searching and social commentary.

One of the standout aspects of this collection is how Joni uses her own experiences to illuminate life’s complexities and dilemmas. Her essays are filled with concrete details that bring her stories to life, whether she’s navigating the world despite having no sense of direction or maintaining a supportive relationship with her ex-husband. These personal anecdotes are entertaining and leave the reader contemplating more nuanced, subtle details that defy simple conclusions.

Reviewers have praised Joni’s ability to make readers laugh aloud while offering deeper insights. As one reviewer noted, “The depth of Cole’s insights and eloquence of her prose elevate these pieces to the status of art.” This sentiment rings true throughout the collection, as Joni masterfully combines humor with heft, making each essay a memorable read.

Another reviewer shared their connection with Joni, highlighting how her self-deprecating humor and inspiring confidence resonate on a profoundly personal level. Reading "Party Like It's 2044" felt like catching up with an old friend, filled with quirky musings on everything from GPS mishaps to the quest for the perfect bathrobe.

For anyone looking for a book that will make you laugh, think, and reflect, "Party Like It's 2044" is a must-read. Joni B. Cole’s unique voice and engaging storytelling make this collection a standout. Highly recommended for anyone with a dry sense of humor and a love for insightful, entertaining essays.

Personal Update: Embracing the Future of Radio and Rediscovering My eBay Hobby

Last week, I attended the Vermont Association of Broadcasters conference with a few of my staff members. It was a fantastic experience, filled with insightful discussions about the future of radio. One of the main topics was how AI will impact the industry. While many in the radio industry are scared about the rise of AI, I know it’s not going anywhere. So, instead of worrying, I choose to be optimistic and embrace the changes. The conversations at the conference left me feeling hopeful and excited about what’s ahead.

The conference was a lot of fun, and it was great to connect with other professionals in the field. We exchanged ideas, learned from each other, and explored the potential of new technologies. The energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and I’m excited to bring some of these fresh perspectives back to our station.

On a different note, my eBay hobby has been picking up again, and I’ve been making some cool discoveries at yard sales this year. As I delve deeper into the resale world, I’m learning more about what treasures I can find. It’s been a rewarding experience, combining the thrill of the hunt with the excitement of finding great deals.
