We’ve hit a new milestone on the illustration front—10 illustrations are complete! Each one adds a splash of fun and perfectly captures the spirit of the dad jokes we all love (or love to groan at). We're pushing towards 25 illustrations, and the creativity is flowing non-stop.

Review: "Cigars of the Pharaoh" by Hergé

If you're a fan of Tintin or just discovering his adventures, "Cigars of the Pharaoh" is a real treat. This fourth book in Hergé’s iconic series takes our fearless reporter, Tintin, and his loyal dog, Snowy, on an action-packed journey through Egypt and India. It's here we start to see the layers of Tintin's world build-up, blending real-world intrigue with the charm of classic comics.

This story starts with Tintin on the trail of a missing Egyptologist and a mysterious pharaoh. What unfolds is a thrilling narrative filled with poisons, mad tigers, and even madder adventures. It’s fascinating how Hergé weaves historical touches into the plot, reflecting the Tutankhamun tomb craze of the 1930s. The danger and mystique of Tintin's Egyptian tomb explorations are just perfect—they give this comic that golden age vibe that's both nostalgic and thrilling.

As an adult, I've come to appreciate the deeper storyline involving opium smuggling, something totally over my head as a kid. It’s a sophisticated plot for a young reporter known for outsmarting adults and dodging danger at every turn. Also, this book introduces the Thom(p)sons—those bumbling detectives that add just the right amount of comic relief.

One of my favorite quirky bits is Tintin learning to communicate with elephants! Only in Hergé's world, right? These light-hearted moments paired with serious adventure make "Cigars of the Pharaoh" such a pivotal book in the series. It sets the stage for all the richly drawn escapades that follow.

For anyone diving back into their childhood reads or exploring Tintin for the first time, this book is a must. It has all the elements that make Tintin timeless—adventure, humor, and a dash of historical intrigue.

Personal Update: Back on Track at Bear Ridge Speedway

A highlight of my week—and indeed a landmark moment for us—was our first broadcast in over 30 years at Bear Ridge Speedway. It was an exhilarating experience, and while we faced a few hiccups before going live, the event went smoothly once we were on air. Our announcers truly outdid themselves, bringing their A-game to the broadcast and ensuring that our audience felt every bit of the excitement from the races.

It was a long night, but seeing everything come together so well was incredibly rewarding. This broadcast was particularly special to me, as it marks a significant step toward achieving my goal of restoring the radio station to its former glory, reminiscent of its early days. There's something very fulfilling about reviving that spirit and tradition, and I'm thrilled to see it all starting to take shape.
