ALWAYS POSTED A WEEK EARLIER ON PATREON

This Week on Storycomic Presents: Filmmaking Finesse and Comic Craftsmanship

This week on Storycomic Presents, we had the pleasure of diving into the worlds of cinema and comics through two fascinating interviews that explored the intricate processes behind storytelling in both mediums. Whether you're a film aficionado or a comic book enthusiast, these episodes promise to enrich your understanding of creative narratives.

Episode 354: Asif Akbar and the Making of 'MR-9 Do or Die'

In our first episode of the week, I was thrilled to welcome back filmmaker Asif Akbar to discuss his latest project, 'MR-9 Do or Die,' an ambitious adaptation of Qazi Anwar Husain’s iconic Bengali novel "Masud Rana: Dhonghsho Pahar" (Demolition Hill). Asif delved into the challenges and triumphs of bringing the legendary spy Masud Rana to life on the big screen, ensuring that the essence of MR-9's thrilling adventures resonates with both longtime fans and newcomers around the globe.

Asif's insight into the adaptation process revealed the meticulous research and creative nuances involved in translating a culturally rich character into a universally appealing cinematic spectacle. The episode also highlighted the thrilling action sequences and strategic casting choices that are set to make 'MR-9 Do or Die' a standout in the spy thriller genre. Asif’s passion for film and storytelling shone throughout our discussion, offering listeners an exclusive peek into the making of what promises to be an exhilarating addition to international cinema.

Episode 355: Jeffrey Haas and 'The End of All: Terminus' Issue 2

The creative journey continued in our latest episode with the return of renowned comic book writer Jeffrey Haas to discuss Issue 2 of 'The End of All: Terminus.' This new chapter in his series amplifies the existential threat of the "Great Rip," pushing the narrative to new heights as disparate species struggle to coexist and survive aboard a spaceship teetering on the brink of oblivion.

Jeffrey provided a deep dive into the complexities of crafting a multifaceted science fiction universe where political intrigue and cultural conflicts abound. The discussion explored the character dynamics led by Captain Ada Lamarr and the bold warrior Thracsist, whose high-stakes missions introduce new dangers and dark forces that could alter their collective fate. Jeffrey’s influences, ranging from classic comics to modern sci-fi, illustrate the diverse inspirations that enrich the layered world of 'Terminus.'

These episodes of Storycomic Presents not only highlighted the detailed work behind the scenes but also celebrated the dedication and creativity of two prominent figures in their respective fields. Whether discussing cinematic adaptations or the evolution of a comic series, the insights shared by Asif and Jeffrey are a testament to the vibrant and ever-evolving landscape of narrative arts.

Steady Progress on the Ultimate Collection of Dad Jokes

Book Review: "Sheep Go to Sleep" by Nancy Shaw, Illustrated by Margot Apple

As a parent navigating the fleeting moments of the board book phase with a nearly four-year-old, finding a children’s book that easily captures the heart and imagination is truly special. Nancy Shaw and Margot Apple's "Sheep Go to Sleep" gem has become a cherished read in our home.

This delightful addition to Shaw and Apple’s best-selling Sheep series encapsulates the whimsical chaos of bedtime through the tale of a flock of sheep that can't seem to settle down for the night. Thankfully, a kind and resourceful sheepdog is on hand to soothe each sheep’s concerns with gentle remedies that range from a warm blanket to a comforting drink of water.

Nancy Shaw’s rhythmic prose is perfectly pitched for bedtime reading—easy to follow with a soothing cadence that makes multiple readings a joy rather than a chore. Margot Apple's illustrations are equally captivating, offering fun and heartwarming visuals that complement the text beautifully. The interaction between text and illustration not only enhances the story but also holds the attention of young readers, making it a perfect book for parents and children to explore together.

Counting sheep as they drift to sleep adds an interactive element that entertains and helps wind down the day. The endearing depiction of the sheep and their dedicated collie creates a comforting bedtime ritual that resonates with both children and adults. The clever nod to a classic nursery rhyme in the conclusion adds a charming touch that rounds off the story wonderfully.

"Sheep Go to Sleep" is more than just a story; it’s a delightful experience for young children and a fond farewell to the board book stage for parents. It captures what makes reading with your children so memorable and rewarding. This is undoubtedly a must-have on the shelf for those seeking a book that will bring smiles at bedtime and make those precious reading moments last.

Spring Adventures: Tae Kwon Do Triumphs and Broadcast Preparations

Elizabeth at the Tae Kwon Do Tournament

Jordan broke her board!

This past weekend was particularly special for us as the girls participated in their Tae Kwon Do tournament. It was a day filled with energy, excitement, and many proud parent moments. Watching them showcase their skills and hard work was truly a joy. They had a blast, and honestly, seeing them so happy and invigorated by the competition was a real win for me.

After the tournament, we decided to treat ourselves to a delicious meal to celebrate. We headed to the 'Vermont Pie and Pasta Company'; the food was as comforting and hearty as the name suggests. There’s nothing like a good meal to round off an exciting day!

On the work front, I took a trip to Bear Ridge Speedway to ensure we were all set to broadcast the upcoming races. Despite its location in a rather remote part of the state, I’m happy to report that our internet connection was top-notch, thanks to the new remote broadcast equipment I recently invested in. This gear is proving to be a fantastic addition, ensuring we can bring all the live action to our listeners without a hitch.

It’s reassuring to see everything falling into place, allowing us to provide the best possible experience to our racing fans. I’m looking forward to the season and all the dynamic coverage we plan to offer.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement in all my personal and professional endeavors. I’ll keep the updates coming as more adventures unfold. Here’s to a season of joy, success, and maybe a little more yummy food from our favorite local spots!
