During the past week, I had the pleasure of delving into issues one and two of 'S.P.I.R.I.T.', an intriguing series published by Mark Bell's Plague Doctor Press. As I immersed myself in the pages of this captivating comic, I couldn't help but draw comparisons to Scott Harris King's renowned 'Crimebusters' series. Both narratives revolve around teenage sleuths unraveling supernatural mysteries. However, while Scott's stories pay homage to the golden age of comics, Mark's series embraces the coming-of-age teenage sleuth trope, offering a fresh take on the 2000s.
A Tapestry of Characters:
'S.P.I.R.I.T.' portrays a group of friends with distinct personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. As the story unfolds, we witness the power of their camaraderie as they face challenges and support one another. Running a radio station involves various facets, and I've been immersing myself in all aspects of the business. It can be divided into four key categories: on-air talent, selling advertising, business operations, and engineering. With my MBA background, I feel confident in tackling the operational side of the business. Additionally, my experience in online radio and podcasting has honed my skills in front of a microphone. However, I'm excited to embark on the journey of learning the intricacies of advertising sales and the technical aspects of engineering.
Embracing the Art of the Sale:
In preparation for this new endeavor, I've been exploring the art of sales by working with Leafguard for the past few months. The experience has been delightful, giving me insights into the adrenaline rush of closing a deal. It's a thrill I've come to appreciate, making the entire process engaging and rewarding.
A Learning Adventure:
As the new owner, I recognize there will be much to learn, particularly in engineering. However, I relish the opportunity to tinker and grow in this area. Fortunately, the present owner will stay on board, offering valuable guidance and support whenever needed. With an eagerness to learn and a passion for the industry, I'm confident this knowledge will be acquired soon.
