Podcast Updates

I was thrilled to have on the show JayDee Rosario, a genuinely talented and internationally acclaimed comic publisher from Unstoppable Comics! JayDee shared some invaluable insights regarding the strategic implementation of 'Print on Demand' versus Offset Printing, showcasing his profound knowledge and experience in the industry. His expertise is commendable, and his advice is guaranteed to assist anyone in making the best choice for their printing needs. We're fortunate to have JayDee come on, enlightening us with his wisdom.

Later in the week, Kylar Merrell, a highly recognized and immensely talented publisher from Foreign Press Comics came on the show. It was an absolute honor to have Kylar with us as he presented his latest project, the captivating fusion of a cookbook and comic anthology titled 'Comics from the Kitchen'. This anthology is an absolute must-have for those who appreciate the art of cooking and the magic of exceptional comics.

Kylar's ability to blend these two distinct yet wonderfully complementary mediums is a testament to his creative brilliance and innovation. We were privileged to have Kylar here, sharing his remarkable work.

This past week, we warmly welcomed back the renowned comic creator of Avalon, the one and only Brandon Starocci!

Conversations with Brandon are always a delight, as his passion for the medium is contagious. His commitment to storytelling and artistic excellence is evident in every panel he creates. During our discussion, we had the opportunity to explore the significance of addressing real-world issues within the framework of a post-apocalyptic setting, and Brandon's insights were both thought-provoking and inspiring. Engaging with Brandon is always a pleasure, and his contributions to the comic industry continue to leave a lasting impact.

We extend our deepest gratitude to JayDee Rosario, Kylar Merrell, and Brandon Starocci for gracing us with their exceptional talent, knowledge, and passion. Their creative endeavors and dedication to the world of comics are genuinely awe-inspiring. We are incredibly fortunate to have such remarkable individuals who enrich the industry with their unique perspectives and outstanding contributions.

Project Updates

Over the week, I dedicated my time and effort to meticulously crafting the layouts and design of 'Dadder Jokes'’ This endeavor involved connecting with other friends and talented creatives creating variant covers that ultimately turned out to be nothing short of awe-inspiring. Perfecting the layout and plan for a book can be perceived as laborious, yet it is undeniably one of the most fulfilling aspects of the creative journey.

From selecting the perfect typography to carefully arranging each element on the page, every decision made during the layout and design phase contributes to the overall aesthetic and impact of the book. It is a task that demands patience, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. While it may be time-consuming and demanding, witnessing a concept's transformation into a visually captivating piece of art is an enriching experience.

The variant covers made by my friends, in particular, were a testament to the power of thoughtful design. Each cover boasts a unique visual identity that conveys the book's essence, enticing potential readers and igniting their curiosity. The fusion of color, imagery, and typography culminates in a harmonious composition that not only pleases the eye but also captures the essence of the humor and wit found within 'Dadder Jokes'.

What I’m reading

The New Yorker 25th Anniversary Album is a captivating collection of cartoons that transcends time. This album offers a delightful glimpse into the past quarter-century's ever-changing cultural and historical landscape through witty illustrations. Each cartoon provides a window into social, political, and technological developments, providing entertainment and valuable insights into our shared journey.

The New Yorker 25th Anniversary Album seamlessly captures the essence of each era, reminding us of the universal language of laughter. As we delve into these thought-provoking illustrations, we witness the evolution of society and the triumphs and trials that have shaped our collective history. This album's fusion of humor and history fosters a deeper appreciation for the human experience, bridging generational gaps and embracing our cultural heritage.

Every few years or so, I will reread this book, and frankly, I feel it offers more educational insights regarding our early 20th-century history than many textbooks.

Cartoons are a powerful medium.
