Storycomic Weekly Newsletter: April 22nd
Podcast Updates
I had a considerable amount of shows this past week. Many were from reschedules. On Tuesday, I had back with us the talented and acclaimed comic creator Andre Owens! It was his fourth time on the show. He was here to discuss his latest project; the epic 230-page graphic novel, the Omegan Chronicles! He also has some great advice on creativity and perseverance!
Also, on Tuesday, I was excited to have back with us the internationally acclaimed and talented comic creator, Illustrator, and Designer, Scott Serkland.
Scott was here to chat about the latest evolution of his brand and new upcoming youtube projects. He also gave the Storycomic listeners some exclusive news! Check out the interview if you have not yet.
Wednesday was an interview rescheduled, and it was with someone I was looking forward to talking to. I was honored to have on the show the globally revered and celebrated Author, Illustrator, and Cartoonist, Eric Gapstur.
He was here to chat about his latest book: ‘The Magma Cup’ It is the second book in his well-regarded YA graphic novel series, ‘Sort of Super.’
The highly talented and creative writer, game designer, and owner of Xero Sum Games, Tony Bushell, came on the show on Thursday.
He was here to talk about the multimedia crowd-sourced world he created with a role-playing game and comic book tie-ins.
He also talked about the importance of building a narrative-based game system that allows a sense of realism for its players.
On my Vermont Artists and Authors podcast, I uploaded a remastered version of an interview I did last year. I was honored to have the internationally respected and award-winning Vermont Author Laura C. Stevenson with us. She came to chat about her latest mystery novel, ‘All Men Glad and Wise.’
Project Updates
This was a whole week of project momentum. I read JL Durona’s draft of the Lion and Dove revamp, and it was pretty fun! I had a few minor notes, but I was thrilled to see that he could capture the spirit of the characters well.
We are going with the 80s and 90s sitcom feel, which fits well with my marriage. A beautiful and intelligent woman indeed marries a goofy and overweight nice guy.
Also, I am finishing up formatting my second Dad Joke book this week.
I will also bite the bullet and try doing a Kickstarter with it. I’m pretty excited to see how it will do. I will have my good friend Jeff Haas help me with the promotion of it, and I hope to get it launched in June. The month of Father’s Day!
What I’m reading
This week I read ‘Estranged: The Changeling King.’ by Ethan Aldridge
It was one of the books that stood out at the library, and I decided to check it out. I did not realize upon reading the first chapter that it was a sequel book. The good thing about how Ethan wrote the story is that it was easy to fill in the gaps of the first book without reading it. Much like how a well-written television show or movie allows the viewer to feel caught up without missing anything, this was the same with Ethan.
I have always been a fan of urban fantasy settings, and I loved how Ethan created his world. I love the politics and magic he built. There is much more to explore and significant hints to a wealth of backstories for the characters. I am excited to explore more of what Ethan has formed.
The dynamics between humans and fae races are exciting, and seeing how one of the main characters, Cinder, tries to navigate his place between both worlds is. It is an excellent allegory to those who struggle to find their family and, in the end, gives the reader permission to recognize that our family is who loves us and allows us to grow.
Personal Updates
We are full into Spring now. I had my annual mulch delivery this week.
Another sign of spring is removing the plastic on the windows as well. The girls and I went to our first flea market of the season too.
There have been more potentially exciting forward momentum on my new day job possibility, but until it is solidified, I am publicly keeping it mum; but it is something exciting!
