Podcast Updates

This week we celebrated episode 250 of my flagship podcast, ‘Storycomic Presents, ’ with Dan Abdo coming on the show.  It seemed appropriate as he represented the three genres of guests that come on to talk about their work: Children’s books, authors, and comic creators.  We had a great time chatting about the worldbuilding process of a beloved children’s graphic novel series, along with the benefits of technology that allow such close collaboration with a teammate hundreds of miles away.

On Thursday, I was excited to have with us the widely acclaimed, award-winning & highly talented Author, Illustrator, and Songwriter of The Cows Go Moo, Jim Petipas!

We had a great time chatting about the importance of music with children’s books and why perseverance is paramount to getting a book written.

Jim also had some great tips and advice for new and seasoned authors.

Project Updates

This week was a bit more productive.  I got 6000 words on my new book focusing on leadership advice.  It is an inspiration from my day job that I recently left.

This will be the anchor to possibly leaning into doing some consultancy work.

I also worked a bit more on my Dad Joke sequel book.

I also got back to working on my vintage World of Warcraft-themed postcards.  Selling them as digital downloads might be better than physical items.

This took some research to see the best way to set up a digital download option.

What I’m reading

I am still on my young reader graphic novel kick and read James Burks ‘Agent 9: Flood-A-Geddon!’

This was a fun Nickelodeon cartoon – esque 190+ page read that follows the adventure of a cat who is part of the S4 (Super-Secret Spy Service).

This was a fun and daring read with plenty of adult humor that parents can enjoy—mainly focusing on the amazon purchasing consumer culture prevalent in global north communities.

There is also a sense of tapping into the international espionage action reminiscent of James Bond and other campy spy movies.

James also is successful in building the character development of Agent 9 while we watch them learn from mistakes and persevere through problem-solving.

I am happy to see that there is a second book already out.

Personal Updates

The spring weather is being hesitant in showing itself.  We have had snowy and rainy weather all week and is not very helpful.  I have been trying to teach myself how to do drywall mudding and I have had limited success.

I have had some good meetings this week that have made me very hopeful for the future as well in regards to my day job skill set.
