Podcast Updates

This past week we had two interviews that highlighted some great comic creators.

On Tuesday, We had the acclaimed writer and creator of ‘Cane’ and “Unidentified’, Taylor Campbell!  We chatted about what it takes to make a great monster mythos and how shows like Buffy and Supernatural inspired him.

On Thursday, We were excited to have back with us the incomparably talented and internationally revered creative team of Fugitive Poems Comics, Christian De Matteo, and James Lines!

They came on to chat about their newest anthology book: Containment Breach Volume 3: Of Clouds and Ether.

They provided some great stories and advice on how to work and liaise with great authors and artists and the importance of being in a mindset of always learning and honing a craft.

Project Updates

So things have taken a slight inspirational turn for me. I am sure this evolution of the creative process happens to many. Still, I realized that the latter seems to be the first to be left behind due to my limited time and energy in balancing work, family, and the creative process.

I have made a concerted effort to reach out to other creatives to help me with some of my projects so they can get done, transforming my project wish list into a to-do list!

What I’m reading

Over the last few weeks, I have introduced my 6-year-old and 8-year-old to the fun and exciting world of tabletop role-playing games.  Toon, by Steve Jackson Games, is a great in-between system for young kids who like games that involve interactive storytelling and those that want to get started in learning more complex rule systems.

It would be a stretch to turn a Toon game into a long, drawn-out campaign involving multiple sessions, but more of a one-shot game.

Perhaps this is because of the genre it is inspired by: Saturday morning goofy cartoons, which in themselves only last 5 minutes.

Either way, it was fun to make characters for this game and explore possibilities with young imaginations and machinations.

Personal Updates

This was a week of back-to-back work obligations, community obligations, and family obligations.  I was very proud of myself for giving each part equal priority.  Some days you feel like your behind on everything, but some other days, you stumble along and feel impressed by yourself that you didn’t fall.
