Podcast Updates

This past week I had 2 Livestream interviews with very talented folks.

This past Tuesday, the highly talented Children’s Book & Comics Illustrator and Founder of Kids Con New England, Emily Drouin, came on the show. I have been looking forward to chatting with her for a long time and was happy to finally get a chance to hear her tips and advice on working with independent authors and comic creators, along with her adventures in running Kids Con New England.

On Thursday, the internationally acclaimed London-based Fantasy & Historical Fiction Author Willow Woods came on the show.  First of all, kudos to her for staying up until midnight for our interview, and also, what an incredibly creative mind.

She chatted with us about the expansive worlds she has created and how important it is to ensure that despite how incredibly detailed a world is, having relatable and developed characters is paramount to a successful story.  I am looking forward to having Willow come back on again soon.

Project Updates

Work on ‘Appliance’ was slower this week.  I began working on drafting up a sample adventure for the end of the core book.  This has entailed doing some sample reading of other FATE Core campaign adventures along with drafting out an outline of the module.

What I’m reading

This week I read the YA graphic novel, ‘Aquicorn Cove’ by Kay O’Neill.  This quick and powerful read follows a young girl who goes back to visit her mother’s hometown after a storm.  A great backstory is touched regarding her mother’s passing and the seemingly normalized magical creatures that live next to this seaside fishing village.

Other reviews compare it to a Disney-esque story with the normalization of inclusion and a strong message of how humans need to be better stewards of our environment. Still, I appreciated how approachable the story was for its target audience.

O’Neill is a great storyteller and a fantastic artist.  Their style is soft, magical, and very appealing to young readers.

I am looking forward to seeing more of their work.

Personal Updates

I’ve been plugging away, rebuilding some Lego sets, and working my way into staying ahead of the downstairs clutter.  The delightfully annoying part of this exploration into bulk collections I find online is that there is always one or two pieces missing that I must order individually.

We also sent out our 2022 Christmas cards this week and had our first big dumping of snow! I was all prepared to get all sore and angry over shoveling the 12 inches of heavy wet snow, but the neighbor’s kid showed up and offered to do it for $20.  Heck yeah!
