ALWAYS POSTED A WEEK EARLIER ON PATREON

Podcast Updates

This week we had two shows of ‘Storycomic Presents’. On Tuesday, Sarah Woodard came back on the show. Since her appearance on Episode 91 back in July, she has published 13 new books.  That’s roughly 2 books a month she has published!  At that rate, she will be averaging 100 books written and published every 4 years!

On Thursday, with us is the highly acclaimed and celebrated comic creator of Sunrise Blossom, Nina Aberlein which is live on Kickstarter now!  We had so much fun chatting about her comic book, and she provided some great advice for other comic writers and artists.

Project Updates

This past week I worked more on formatting my dad joke book with InDesign. Originally my plan was to put 3 jokes on each page, but some of the one-liners were longer than others, which made some pages fuller than others.  Also, some of the border images did not match with some joke themes.  For example, if there was a fishing-related joke, I would need to make sure that it was on the fishing border illustration and not the lawn mowing border illustration.

The page count is now down to 163 pages so far, but I am going to still make sure there is at least 500 jokes inside the book.

What I’m reading

I read the 250 plus page graphic novel, “City of Secrets” by Victoria Yang this past week.  I have always had a soft spot for steampunk settings and this book fits perfectly in that theme.

It is a young adult graphic novel that Victoria Ying wrote and illustrated and her background of working at Disney shines through with the script and the artwork.

I mentioned on my Instagram that this book had some innovative storytelling through mapping and engineering designs, which I found interesting.  Ying also sets up a grand backstory that is hinted at in the book, allowing the reader to feel satisfied while wanting to explore this world more.

I enjoyed it and will look forward to reading the next installment of the series.

Personal Updates

The 7-year-old was Covid negative.  That was a relief knowing that our home is still COVID-free so far.  She ended up having fun being isolated from her sister since we moved the tv downstairs for her to keep her distracted.

I am still at 191 pounds with my Noom journey, and I have been able to keep my daily step goals met for 2 weeks in a row so far, despite the negative zero temperatures.  This is due to the laps I have been doing around the house and the office during the day.

Speaking of day… as of this writing, we have 36 extra minutes of daylight compared to our darkest day of the year, December 21st.  it may be the coldest time of the year, at least it is getting brighter.

Enjoying her quarantine last weekend :)
