This past Tuesday I had such a fun time chatting with acclaimed and talented comic creator of Plague Doctor Press, Mark Bell. He chatted about his latest Kickstarter S.P.I.R.I.T. issue number two.
He provided some great advice for writers and really chatted about the importance of networking.
Project Updates
This past week I plugged away more at my “Appliance” game. I have 11 pages drafted out so far. This past week I have been writing more on how other inanimate objects interact in the world. Objects like clothing, buildings, and artwork.
I am having some fun expanding out my thoughts on this game.
What I’m reading
This past week I read the 150+ page anthology graphic novel “Cthulhu Invades Oz.” the anthology was created by Travis Gibb from Orange Cone Productions.
It was a fun and large collection of stories. 22 stories, plus interlude poems along with an introduction and an afterword.
I have been a fan of the Oz literary universe for quite some time and was very happy to see this anthology.
I really appreciated how the writers and artists utilized Baum’s original series and did not rely on the more well-known film version of the characters. The writers of the stories also understood many of the characters and lands in the 13-book series, including people like the Shaggy Man and Ozma.
It was a fun homage to Baum and it was great to see how the seemingly innocent and childlike characters reacted to an invasion of cosmic horrors. I am looking forward to seeing more of Gibb’s work.
Personal Updates
This past week I started going through a collection of late 1970’s Legos that I purchased last summer.
I quickly realized that the quality of the brick toys has slightly decreased. The newer Lego bricks from the past 20 years or so break easily compared to the ones from 40 years ago.
It has been an adventure discovering old sets from this era and now getting a better picture of the company’s manufacturing history.
On the family front, I took the girls out to the store to do some Christmas shopping for the family. At their age, there is still a bit of confusion on the spirit of giving. At the store, both of them were looking to wanting to buy things for themselves instead of things for others; but they did enjoy searching for the perfect present for their siblings and mother.
Gingerbread Houses were made!
