I really enjoyed my interview with Matthew Goodwin on September 29th.  He is the editor of the widely acclaimed Science Fiction and Fantasy anthology, Latinx Rising which was successfully funded on Kickstarter back in 2016.

He talked with me about a sequel of sorts that is on Kickstarter now, Speculative Fiction for Dreamers.

This was the first interview I did with an anthology editor and it really made me realize how much of a crucial role that is; especially with anthologies.  He has to organize multiple different voices and genres into one cohesive book.

Despite all the internet issues I was facing, I had a fun time with him.

Project Updates

It’s Drawtober!  I have a children’s book idea that I’ll be working on this month.  It’s inspired by the song “Me and the Moon”  by Gaelic Storm.  The song is basically about a man drinking whisky in the moonlight.  Animals start coming out and dancing with the man as well.  There is something sort of magical about the song.

I am going to have it about a little girl sleeping in her backyard with some hot chocolate and create a memorable night with the moon and dancing animals.

What I’m reading

This past week, as I have been waiting for some back issues to arrive, I jumped back into the  Dime Comics app.  If you have any IOS devices, I highly recommend it.  It’s packed with thousands of golden age comics from the 1930s to the 1950s.  I’ve been reading  Green Hornet Comics from the early ’40s. 

It is really comforting to see the simplicity and nostalgia of a time well before me to help wind down the day.

Personal Updates

The baby is now 2 weeks old and is back at his birth weight.  I just bought a Baby Bjorn baby carrier.  Those things were great and I misplaced the one we had when our two girls were babies.  It is the best way for me to help out with the baby.  I can just strap him to my chest and still do my work around the house.

Also!  One more week until the Cerebral Palsy Conference.  As much fun as it has been learning how to host a virtual conference, I’m also excited to have it over, so I can then take my much-needed Paternity leave.
